PET TAGS AND PET ORDINANCES

North Newton Ordinances 588-14 and 589-14 require that all dogs and cats within the City be licensed annually by March 1.  Proof of current rabies vaccination is required.  The fee is $3.00 for spayed or neutered dogs and cats and $5.00 for unfixed dogs and cats.  Every year the City begins tagging pets for the new year on December 1.  Pet owners will pay a penalty of $15 per pet when tagging after the March 1 deadline unless they are tagging a new pet.

Ordinances 163 & 262 prohibits dogs from running at large.  Ordinance 163 also addresses barking and howling dogs as well as vicious dogs.

Ordinance 472-03 requires the owner, walker or keeper of any animal or pet to remove the animal's excrement from public or private property (including public walks, streets, recreation areas, and parks) other than the property owned or under the control of the animal's owner, and dispose of it in a sanitary manner.
