Qualified applicants must possess a 501(c)(3) status under the Internal Revenue Service code, be exempt under statute (i.e. educational institution, church, a city or county), or be formally linked to an organization with such designation.  Proposed projects/programs must be consistent with the NNCF Mission Statement which focuses on expansion of educational opportunities, cultural enrichment and improvement of human health and the physical environment.

Grant applications can be accessed and completed on-line through the "Apply Now" tab on the CKCF website, www.centralkansascf.org.  Completed applications must be received no later that 5 P.M., March 19.  Further information can be obtained from Kevin Geraci, NNCF Grant Chair, at geracilli@yahoo.com or Chancy Gerbitz, CKCF Program Director, at chancy@centralkansascf.org.

The North Newton Community Foundation was formed in December 2011 and is affiliated with the Central Kansas Community Foundation.  The goal of the foundation is to establish a means to benefit a wide variety of non-profit organizations in their efforts to improve health care, human services, education, arts and culture or other charitable initiatives which enhance the North Newton community.

NORTH NEWTON NEWS

INTANGIBLES TAX - North Newton continues to levy an intangibles tax.  This is a 2% tax on interest and dividend earnings.  Persons who have such income must file Kansas Tax Form 200 with the County Clerk's Office on or before April 15, 2015.  The County Clerk posts the tax to property tax statements.  Current forms are available at http://www.ksrevenue.org/formsint.html.

ELECTIONS - The voters of North Newton will elect a mayor and two city council members to four year terms on April 7, 2015.  Those running for city council are: Ron Ratzlaff, Paul Harder and Kurt Friesen.  Ron Braun is the only candidate for mayor.

TRASH AND RECYCLING - Steve Meyer, dba South Central Recycling, distributed a new supply of trash and recycle bags in late November.  If you run out before the next supply is delivered, you will need to buy your own bags.  If unable to find clear bags, use white bags and write "Recycle" on the bag.

WATER - For two years we have been reporting on our pending water project.  The project is progressing with three new water wells already dug in the county to the west, the majority of the pipeline has been laid and foundation work for the water tower site is completed.

CALL 911 for any emergency, including reporting an after-hours maintenance issue such as a water main break or sewer back-up.  The appropriate law enforcement officer, emergency service personnel or city staff will be dispatched.
