NORTH NEWTON NEWS

INTANGIBLES TAX REMINDER - North Newton continues to levy an intangibles tax which is a 2% tax on interest and dividend earnings.  Persons who have such income must file Kansas tax Form 200 with the County Clerk's Office on or before April 15, 2016.  The County Clerk then posts the tax to property tax statements.  Current forms are available at http://www.ksrevenue.org/pdf/20016.pdf.

PRESCRIPTION DRUG DISPOSAL -
The Harvey County Sheriff's Department is no longer accepting unused prescription drugs.  According to the KDHE website the proper way too dispose of unused prescription drugs is to crush, dissolve or mix with water.  Then add it to kitty litter or coffee grounds to make it undesirable.  This mixture needs to be placed in a closed container or sealed plastic bag and placed in the trash.  Unused prescription drugs should never be flushed down the toilet or poured down the drain.

2016 PET TAGS - Dogs and cats are required to be tagged in North Newton.  Citizens can tag their pets for $3.00 or $5.00 through the March 1, 2016 deadline.  After the deadline, a $15.00 penalty is applied.  Remember, we need to see proof of an unexpired rabies vaccination when you get your city pet tag.

SEWER PROJECT
-  The sewer project has been completed and sewage is currently being diverted to Hesston where it is treated at their treatment plant.

CALL 911 for any emergency, including reporting an after-hours maintenance issue such as a water main break or sewer back-up.  The appropriate law enforcement officer, emergency service personnel or city staff will be dispatched.
