NORTH NEWTON NEWS

Spring Clean Up Week, originally scheduled for April 6-10, has been postponed.

Information from Chief of Police Randy Jordan -
The North Newton Police Department will continue serving the community.  The news is packed with information about cancellations and events and meetings being limited to a certain number of attendees.  Still, officers from North Newton Police Department will continue patrol duties and will continue to respond to calls for service in North Newton.

In order to protect the health of officers and residents, officers will be limiting face to face contact with residents.  Officers will not be entering residences unless there is an emergency.  Residents can call the North Newton Police Department administrative line at 283-3191 for NON-EMERGENCY calls.  Please leave a message if there is no answer.  Officers will be patrolling, but will be checking for messages. Residents should call 911 for emergencies.

Officers will not be responding to medical calls unless there is a life threatening circumstance that requires their response.

INTANGIBLES TAX -
North Newton continues to levy an Intangibles Tax.  This is a tax on interest and dividend earnings.  Persons who have such income are required to file with your Kansas income tax (Form 200) each spring and this gets posted to your property tax statement.  Your accountant should be aware of this requirement.  Please take note if you have recently moved to North Newton and/or if you prepare your own state income tax forms.

SOUTH CENTRAL RECYCLING
delivered a supply of trash and recycle bags at the end of July.  The next delivery is planned for late February.  These bags are to be used for your household trash and recycling materials only - not to bag leaves, grass clippings and other unintended purposes.  Once you run out, you will need to purchase your own bags until South Central Recycling delivers the next supply.

CALL 911 for any emergency, including reporting an after-hours maintenance issue such as a water main break or sewer back-up.  The appropriate law enforcement officer, emergency service personnel or city staff will be dispatched.
